About Us

Calhoun, Georgia is the home of the Cherokee Capital Amateur Radio Society. Organizing in 1996, then in 1998 wishing to associate ourselves with the national organization the (ARRL) American Radio Relay League we became an affiliated club. Due to our service to the public and the many other activities the club participates in we hold the honor as a (SSC) Special Service Club of the ARRL.

We welcome all Amateurs and those interested in the Amateur Radio Service to join our group. The club offers Full, Family, and Associate membership. We hold monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month.   Meetings are held at the Gordon County Agricultural Center 1282 Hwy 53 Spur Calhoun GA beginning at 7 PM.  During these meetings we try to offer information and training in a mode or interest to the Amateur Radio Operator.

Our (VE) Volunteer Examiners group holds testing sessions beginning at 6 PM prior to the monthly meeting.  These sessions are held by appointment only.

The club hosts an Annual Hamfest held at the Sugar Valley Community Center on the fourth Saturday in the month of April. This is a time of fellowship, trading, and buying new or used equipment either from our guest dealers or from those set up in our tailgating area.

Many of our members participate in the (ARES) Amateur Radio Emergency Service program. We support our local Gordon County Emergency Management Agency and other served agencies when requested.  In times of severe weather members come together to form a local weather net in support of the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City, GA. We also participate in the annual Field Day held the last full weekend in the month of June.

The club repeater operates under the club call sign of K4WOC on the frequency of 443.675+ tone 100. The AB4LZ repeater 146.685- tone 167.9 linking with the club repeater provides great coverage over the Calhoun/Gordon County and surrounding areas.  The club promotes the 220 band by encouraging members to operate on the KJ4JJX repeater system.  It is located on Pine Log Mountain in Cherokee Co. on the frequency of 224.940- pl 100.

A weekly net is held Thursday nights at 8 PM on the linked repeaters. Prior to the repeater net a simplex net is held to test the area simplex abilities on 146.565 at 7:45 PM.  Our D-RATS net is held also beginning at 7:45 PM on the nwgaares.ratflector.com:9000 on the Gordon Channel.
